Checklist

Studying in another country is an exciting adventure, and we understand you’ll have lots of questions. This checklist will guide you step by step, from the moment you get your offer until your arrival at Zuyd. Follow the steps to get everything ready for your stay. Also attend a pre-departure briefing in your country.

Tuition fee

Make sure to pay your tuition fee on time. This is also required before your visa can be arranged.

Visa/residence permit

Zuyd will help you with this process, but start early. It can take several weeks.

Accommodation

Find a place to live. Student housing in the Netherlands is limited, so don’t wait too long.

Health insurance

You must have health insurance that covers your time in the Netherlands.

Step by step

Check your passport

Make sure your passport is valid for the entire duration of your stay in the Netherlands.

Scholarship

Check if you are eligible for a scholarship, such as the NL Scholarship or Zuyd Excellence Scholarship, and apply on time.

Transportation

Getting around in the Netherlands is easy and affordable - most students travel by bike, bus, or train. With great public transport and safe cycling routes, exploring your new home couldn’t be simpler! Discover more about transportation.

Learn a bit of Dutch

Most people speak English, but learning a few Dutch words will help you feel more at home. And locals will appreciate it!

Plan your finances

Make sure you have enough money for rent, groceries, and other living expenses. You may need to show proof of funds for your visa. Once you're in the Netherlands, open a Dutch bank account. This makes it easier to pay bills, receive scholarships, and manage your daily expenses.

Book your travel

Once your visa is approved and your housing is arranged, you can book your trip to the Netherlands.

Bring the right documents

Keep your passport, visa, Zuyd registration documents, and housing contract in your hand luggage.
