Looking for Dutch scholarships to finance your stay in the Netherlands? Zuyd offers several scholarships for talented and highly motivated non-EU students enrolling in a government-funded bachelor’s or master’s programme taught entirely in English. 

NL - Zuyd Excellence Scholarship (NL-ZES) 

The NL–Zuyd Excellence Scholarship (NL-ZES) combines 2 Dutch scholarships: 

  • the NL Scholarship (formerly Holland Scholarship): € 5,000 in your first year  
  • the Zuyd Excellence Scholarship: up to € 3,600 net tuition fee reduction for the nominal duration of your study.

NL-ZES

How it works 
  • You must earn at least 45 ECTS credits per academic year to renew the scholarship. 
  • Renewal is only possible for the nominal duration of your programme. 
  • Applications for Dutch scholarships are reviewed individually, in order of arrival, and are subject to availability. 
  • If you are not selected for NL-ZES, you'll automatically be considered for the Zuyd Excellence Scholarship (ZES) after 1 June.  
  • If all scholarships are awarded, you may be placed on a reserve list. You could still receive a scholarship if other students decline or don’t meet the requirements. 
Application criteria NL-ZES 

To receive the NL-ZES Nederland scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:   

  • You do not hold EU/EEA, Swiss or Surinamese nationality.
  • You have a Zuyd student number via Studielink.
  • You meet the specific entry requirements of your chosen study programme.
  • You are required to pay the highest institutional tuition fee.
  • You will live in the Netherlands during your studies.
  • You haven't studied at a Dutch institution before. This condition only applies to the NL Scholarship. If you do not meet this criterion, you can still apply for the Zuyd Excellence Scholarship)
  • You haven't left a Zuyd programme early without graduating.
  • You are applying to start one of these fully English-taught, government-funded programmes:
How to apply for NL-ZES   

Send the following documents to internationaloffice@zuyd.nl

  • Completed and signed NL-ZES application form (pdf)  
  • Motivation letter (max. 1 A4) 
    • Why you chose this study programme at Zuyd 
    • How it connects to your previous education 
    • What you hope it will bring to your future career 
  • 1 reference letter from a teacher or mentor at your current school. It should describe your academic strengths and skills, and be signed, dated, and on official school stationery. 
  • Your curriculum vitae (resume) 

 Final submission deadline: 1 May 

How NL-ZES applications work  
  • Applications are reviewed individually, in the order we receive them. 
  • NL-ZES Dutch scholarships are limited and depend on availability (first come, first serve).  
  • A selection committee of the International Office and the faculty will decide who receives a scholarship.  
  • Selection is based on academic performance and/or entrance exam results, your motivation and reference letter.   
  • You'll be notified by email before 1 June (unless you are still waiting for entrance exam results). If you are not selected, you can cancel your registration without any obligations before 31 August (before the academic year starts). 
  • You'll need a Dutch bank account to receive these payments. 
  • To renew your NL-ZES Dutch scholarship for the next academic year, you must earn at least 45 ECTS credits per academic year. Renewal only applies for the official duration of your programme. 

 

Limiting conditions 
  • To get the scholarship money, you need to sign up through Studielink and get accepted by the faculty into the programme. 
  • The scholarship money will only be paid after the International Office receives proof of your acceptance from the Zuyd Admissions Office.  
  • If you are not admitted, the International Office can cancel your scholarship. 
  • If you leave the programme early, part of the scholarship you already received may have to be paid back. 
  • You lose the Zuyd Excellence Scholarship if you don't meet the conditions at any time during your studies.   
  • You might be asked to help with marketing and promotion for up to 50 hours a year.   

Zuyd Excellence Scholarship (ZES) 

The Zuyd Excellence Scholarship (ZES) gives you a discount of up to € 3,600 on your tuition fee.

  • ZES Dutch scholarships are limited and depend on availability. 
  • If all scholarships are awarded, you may be placed on a reserve list. You could still receive a scholarship if other students decline or don’t meet the requirements.

To receive the ZES Nederland scholarship, you must meet the following criteria: 

  • You do not hold EU/EEA, Swiss or Surinamese nationality.
  • You have a Zuyd student number via Studielink.
  • You meet the specific entry requirements of your chosen study programme.
  • You are required to pay the highest institutional tuition fee.
  • You will live in the Netherlands during your studies.
  • You haven't left a Zuyd programme early without graduating.
  • You are applying to start one of the following government funded, fully English taught programmes:
  • Applied Data Science & Artificial Intelligence 
    Important notice; ADSAI students can only submit the ZES scholarship application after they have received the confirmation email from the enrolment office stating that their enrolment is complete. The subject of this email states “Your enrolment is complete!” and the statement of enrolment is attached.  
    * ADSAI students, please disregard the awarding results deadlines mentioned below.
