Study at Zuyd


Several types of scholarships are available for talented and highly motivated non-EU students who are applying for a government funded, fully English taught, bachelor's or master's programme.

  • Zuyd Excellence Scholarship

    The Zuyd Excellence Scholarship offers you a net discount on the tuition fee of € 3,600 maximum per academic year for the nominal duration of the programme concerned. There are approximately fifty scholarships available per year (subject to supply and demand).

  • Holland Scholarship

    The Holland Scholarship is an additional scholarship. The scholarship amounts to € 5,000. You will receive this in the first year of your studies and it comes on top of the Zuyd Excellence Scholarship. There are approximately ten of these scholarships  available each year. 

  • Maastricht-Chengdu Friendship Scholarship

    Zuyd provides one full tuition fee waiver for one talented and highly motived student from the city of Chengdu in China. An awarded scholarship is worth maximum € 7.315 per academic year (which is the total yearly tuition fee for a bachelor’s degree programme for a non-EU student). In total the scholarship represents a value of max. € 29.260. 

    Granting criteria
    If you meet the following criteria, you are eligible for a Maastricht-Chengdu Friendship scholarship:

    • You are national of the People’s Republic of China and you either live in the city of Chengdu, or you are currently a student in a school/university located in the city of Chengdu.
    • You are enrolled in a Zuyd English taught bachelor's programme (as a full fee paying student, not as an exchange student), for which a degree certificate has not yet been attained.
    • You are not able to claim another study grant (eg IB-Group, Orange Tulip Scholarship etc.).
    • You live in the Netherlands during your study at Zuyd.
    • You meet the entry requirements of the study programme you have enrolled in.
    • You meet the requirements to obtain a student visa to enter the Netherlands (if applicable).
    • You have never cut short a Zuyd programme without obtaining a degree.
    • You start a study programme at Zuyd in the next academic year.

    Limiting conditions

    • The scholarship will not be awarded until the student has fulfilled all the admission requirements.
    • If the student deregisters prematurely, part of the scholarship that has been paid out will be reclaimed pro rata.
    • Students receiving a scholarship will make themselves available for 5 hours a month for recruitment activities in or regarding their home country for Zuyd as a whole or for their study programme in particular if necessary.

    Application procedure
    Applications for this scholarship will go through NESO China. In order to apply for the scholarship, students must complete an enrollment form through the Online Application System, and send in the following documents to NESO China:

    • Completed filled in application form.
    • The most recent curriculum vitae in English.
    • Certified copies of the highest original diploma’s, with certified English translation.
    • Certified copies of the highest original transcript/grade list, with certified English translation.
    • Sufficient English proficiency: copy of original IELTS or TOEFL iBT score sheet.
    • Copy of original GRE or GMAT score sheet (applies to certain Master programmes only).
    • One Motivation Letter in English (Why you apply for the scholarship and what you would like to achieve with your studies).
    • Two recommendation letters in English with the signature of the writer.
    • Photocopy of your valid passport (page with your personal information)
    • Admission Letter from the Dutch higher education institution applied (if applicable)

    NESO China takes care of the pre-selection for Zuyd. Qualified applications are forwarded to Zuyd for further and final selection. Zuyd will make the final selection. The applications of candidates are carefully checked by document-review and face-to-face interviews (if applicable). Deadline for application for the scholarship is 1 May. One candidate will be selected to receive a Maastricht-Chengdu Friendship scholarship. The winner will receive a confirmation of this before 15 June.

    Procedure for enrolled students

    • The student that is awarded the scholarship has to reapply for a scholarship every year. The application form is available at Zuyd International Office.

    • The student has to obtain at least 45 of the 60 ECTS of the current academic year in order to be eligible to receive a scholarship for the next academic year.

    • In case of unsatisfactory grades the student is no longer entitled to a scholarship.

Application criteria

If you want to be eligible for one of the scholarships (except the Maastricht-Chengdu Friendship Scholarship)

  • You are a not a citizen of a EU country or Switzerland.
  • You are applying for a complete full-time, fully English taught, bachelor’s or master’s programme and have received your Zuyd student number through Studielink.
  • You meet the specific requirements of the study programme.
  • You are required to pay the highest institutional tuition fees.
  • You live in the Netherlands during your study period.
  • You have never cut short a Zuyd programme without obtaining a degree.
  • You have not previously obtained a degree from an education facility in the Netherlands.
  • The scholarships apply only to the government funded, fully English taught programmes:
    • European Studies
    • Hospitality (Hotel) Management
    • Interdisciplinary Arts
    • International Business
    • Music (bachelor and master)
    • Interior Architecture 

Other scholarships

Besides the available scholarships from Zuyd, there are more providers. These include the Dutch government, the European Union and other private scholarship providers. Funding is available for students wishing to spend a short period abroad as well as for those seeking to follow an entire programme of study abroad.
