  • Public affairs officer

In this position, you will monitor political developments and translate them into strategies for your organisation. You'll liaise with policymakers and represent your organisation, especially in Brussels or The Hague. European Studies prepares you with knowledge of policy, communication as well as international cooperation.

  • PR adviser

Create and manage reputation and public image. Your work may include writing press releases, developing campaigns, and advising on media relations.

Studying Communication in Maastricht

Planning to study Communication in the Netherlands? Maastricht is a fantastic place to live and study. It’s a compact, welcoming, and international city where you’ll hear multiple languages spoken daily and meet students from all over the world.

During your Communication courses, you will work a lot with other students, often in international project groups. You will learn how to convey a message to different audiences and cultures. You will work on actual assignments and develop your communication skills in an international environment.

There is also plenty to do outside the classroom. You can join a student organisation, take part in cultural or sports activities or socialise with fellow students at cafés and events. At Zuyd, your campus is centrally located – everything is within cycling or walking distance: classes, supermarkets, cafés, parks, and sports clubs. You will easily feel at home here.

In Maastricht, you will find many student rooms, studios, and shared flats. Living in this city is often more affordable than in larger cities such as Amsterdam. Further study

Want to continue your studies after earning your Communications degree? You can! With a communication degree from a university of applied sciences, you’ll be well prepared for a master’s programme. You can specialise in a specific communication field or deepen your knowledge with a broad master's degree. For example, consider Communication Studies, Marketing Communication or Media & Journalism. By continuing your studies, you will increase your expertise and broaden your career opportunities.

To pursue a master’s at a Dutch research university, you’ll usually need to complete a pre-master’s – a six-month to one-year bridging programme that prepares you for academic study. In some cases, you can even begin this pre-master’s during your bachelor’s in Communication, allowing a smoother transition into a master’s afterwards.
